So how do we get rid of it, and most importantly, how do we prevent our hair from looking like we just stuck our finger in a light socket? My clients ask these questions at least three times daily, so I want to give you a few tips!
Your hair needs moisture, and you can help make that happen in a couple of ways. Start with moisture in the air by ensuring your home's humidifier is working. Next, consider getting a professional deep conditioning treatment at the salon. I recommend doing these every 4-6 weeks during the winter months. Follow up the treatment at home by using a conditioner daily. The most valuable product I can recommend is Neuma’s smoothing cream. The words "smoothing cream" and "moisture" scare many people into thinking their hair will be too heavy or greasy. Trust me, your hair will not be weighed down, and you will still be able to get volume!
One thing you may not think about that contributes to static is your hairdryer. You want to make sure you have a professional quality dryer. The best kind of dryer is one that has negative ions. Negative ions close down the cuticle layer of the hair. This seals in moisture and creates a protective barrier. The ONE Styling Dryer is my absolute favorite for preventing static and we carry them here at K Bella.
I also highly recommend BioIonic’s Bluewave brushes. These brushes continue to amaze me every day! They have what BioIonic calls NanoIonic Complex, which puts natural negative ions into the hair. Instead of just drying the hair, the bristles break down the water into little particles that can penetrate the hair shaft before you seal it back up. This may be a complex concept to grasp, but the bottom line is that these brushes help prevent static!
Another easy home remedy is to wrap a dryer sheet around your brushes before you store them in a drawer. The dryer sheets work wonders when it comes to ensuring your hair doesn’t stick straight out.
Follow these simple tips, and you will get rid of that pesky static!
